New Wave Sound: Vivid Music @ Seymour

Vivid Music at Seymour Centre
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Later this month Vivid Music @ Seymour will present a compelling programme of events as part of Vivid Sydney, 27-29 May.

In conjunction with the University of Sydney, the Seymour Centre is a precinct of Vivid Sydney laying host to a series of exciting events that engage with cutting-edge, creative inspiration and expression.

New Wave Sound

'Gothic' is a musical exploration of the concept of ‘gothic’ by award-winning Sydney composer Andrée Greenwell, featuring songs that weave folk, contemporary classical and post-punk music styles.

'Music For Double Bass' features two works by double bassist Elsen Price and composer Andrew Batt-Rawden that explore the sonorous and enigmatic tones of the eponymous instrument.

'Senex et Sonis: Old Sounds' presents a dynamic exploration of the recorder.

'Bridge: Electroacoustic Review' sees acousmatic composers Daniel Blinkhorn and Rob Evans present a series of fixed-media sound works exploring their relationship with the intricate technology of the human ear.

Musify+Gamify

Engaging with contemporary perspectives on ‘play’, Musify+Gamify is a global-first event, focused on exploring the spaces where music-play and gameplay meet. Taking cues from last century’s music revolutions that took us from electrified instruments to bedroom recording, this experience is not merely about video game music – it explores the whole concept of interactive design.

Curated by Ollie Bown and Lian Loke, the centrepieces of the event are two concerts featuring Australian artists: Ensemble Offspring, Robbie Avenaim and Chris Abrahams, 7Bit Hero, Alon Isar and renowned BAFTA-nominated game composer David Kanaga, of Dyed and Proteus.
