The nominees for the 2024 Music Victoria Awards are here – after a record-breaking amount of entrants.
The selection of nominees highlights the industry’s dedication to recognising the musicians, venues, festivals and professionals who have played a vital role in shaping Victoria’s music scene.
Not long since winning Best Victorian Breakthrough Act in 2019, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer G Flip collects three nominations this year. They’re up for Best Album, Best Solo Artist, and Best Pop Work.
Best Emerging Artists from 2013, Hiatus Kaiyote, are this year nominated for Best Group.
It’s been a great year for Melbourne-based electronic DJ and producer Ninajirachi. 2024 comes close to its end with even more good news, with nominations for Best DJ, Best Producer and Best Electronic Work. Meanwhile, International pop sensation Tones And I scores a Best Pop Work nod.
Best Song sees the likes of Good Morning, Kaiit, Miss Kaninna, DRMNGNOW and Jess Ribero lining up, and solo acts are acknowledged with nominees Maple Glider, Audrey Powne, Lucy Wise, G Flip and Simona Castricum.
It’s been a rough year for the festival sector. Those putting in the ingenuity and hard work it takes to put these events together are recognised through Best Metro Festival, including Flippin’ the Bird (Frankston), Luliepalooza (Abbotsford), Melbourne International Jazz Festival, St Kilda Festival, Yo CiTY CONNECT: AFRO-FUTURE (Abbotsford).
Best Regional Venue/Presenter nominees are recognised this year too, for their innovative ways of creating live music experiences for locals and travellers alike.
“Every year I’m excited about the Music Victoria Awards. This is one of my favourite parts of the job,” Music Victoria CEO Simone Schinkel says. “2024 has been our biggest year of nominations and it’s been a tough choice for the judging panels. Now it’s the public’s turn to cast their votes.”
Voting for the public is open until 1 October.
The 2024 Music Victoria Awards take place at The Edge in Fed Square (Melbourne) on 24 October.
