Music SA Seeks Young South Australian Filmmakers For New Video Competition - Clip Combat!

Start your career in making music videos with MusicSA's Clip Combat! competition.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

As part of Music SA’s Umbrella: Winter City Sounds, the inaugural Clip Combat! Competition is set to shine a spotlight on local musicians and young filmmakers.

Clip Combat is being presented in partnership with the Department Of Innovation And Skills and encourages South Australian filmmakers aged between 13-25 to turn their lights, camera and action toward SA musicians by submitting a music video for an original song.

A project of the state government’s Music Development Office, Clip Combat is being delivered by Music SA and is offering cash and great industry prizes for winners.

Music SA General Manager Lisa Bishop is thrilled to welcome a competition that celebrates original music and young artists.

“Umbrella: Winter City Sounds already highlights the great live music scene we have here in South Australia, and the Clip Combat! Competition complements it beautifully by documenting, in film, the fantastic song writing talent we have here,” Lisa says.

The clips will be judged by public voting as well as an industry panel, with the competition seeking attention-grabbing clips that offer emotion, originality and/or humour.

There's over $5,000 in cash and other prizes to be won as well as the winning clips being screened online and on big screens across the country. Prizes include music festival tickets, cinema passes, merchandise packs, music subscriptions and film equipment hire.

The winning team will also benefit from professional filmmaking mentoring and equipment to kick-start their careers in music video production.

Clip Combat offers awards in two categories:

A $500 cash prize, free equipment hire from Picture Hire to the value of $1,000, a one day Adobe Premiere editing workshop with a local SA Filmmaker, your video screened at Clipped National Music Video Festival in 2020, screening for one month on the Music SA website, submission to ABC’s Rage with expert producer feedback and possible screening, submission to MTV Upload, free hire of Song Writing Rooms at St Paul’s, an Umbrella Festival merchandise pack, a 12 month Spotify subscription, and a stack of free passes to films and events.
