Calling all emerging local musicians and bands: are you looking to spread your music, get your name out there and reach new audiences? Music Box TV is looking for someone just like you.
Music Box TV is a new Australian television programme, set to feature interviews and performances of undiscovered and emerging music talents. Founded last year by host and local DJ Priscilla Ara James, the show is looking to broadcast on community channel Digital 31. But as all new TV shows go, they need content, and in this case interviewees. "Our main goal with the show is to help people who are artists get new recognition with the television people out there, to collect a fan base for them," Priscilla says.
"[We are looking for] people that are passionate, people who can play their stuff. Anyone who inspires people, anyone who sounds good," Priscilla explains.
Although she never really dreamt of hosting her own show, Priscilla has always been influenced by music interview shows such as 'Countdown' and is excited about discovering emerging musicians. "I was a very young age when I used to watch 'Countdown'; I really loved the show. It gave the viewer an insight into an artist's life, why they write the music and why they are inspired to do what they do."
Priscilla has spent a large part of her life in the US, where she trained in acting, music and dance. With this experience and her lifelong background in the arts, in particular music, she is passionate about helping talented individuals and groups broaden their audiences. "I didn't want to do a whole show on myself because that would be boring. There's just so much talent out there and undiscovered talent as well. Everyone needs their break!"
The show's first interview with Dear Willow, a young, indie singer-songwriter from the Sunshine Coast, is in its final production stages. Now Priscilla needs two more interviews for her initial episode to be screened on Digital 31.
