The MTV Video Music Awards nominations have officially landed.

MTV exclusively announced the line-up of nominations on Instagram Live with an elite group of Instagram stars. With a combined reach of 30 million followers the team of star Instagrammers included Bretman Rock, DC Young Fly, Andrea Russett and Nate Garner just to name a few.

Each influencer was asked to reveal a portion of the nominees in a chain that ultimately revealed the full list.

Leading the pack, Kendrick Lamar was nominated eight times for his video 'Humble'. Coming in second both Katy Perry and The Weeknd tied on five nominations each.

Continuing to break barriers, MTV also announced non-gendered categories. The former 'Best Female Video' and 'Best Male Video' have been combined for 'Artist Of The Year'. Additionally, 'Best Fight Against The System' has been added to celebrate videos that stand up and fight injustice.

The MTV Video Music Awards will be live on air from The Forum in Inglewood California on Monday, 28 August on MTV and MTV Music. As of Wednesday, 26 July fans will be able to vote for their favourites across eight VMA categories, including 'Video Of The Year', 'Artist Of The Year', 'Best Collaboration', 'Best New Artist', 'Best Pop', 'Best Rock', 'Best Hip Hop' as well as many others.

The top two artists will be revealed during the VMA pre-show.
