MOZA Are Going For Gold On East-Coast Tour

MOZA

Late last month, Sydney electronic duo MOZA released their newest single 'Gold'.

“'Gold' is situated around this time where Toby [Chew Lee] and I were kind of going through a bit of stuff with our friend circle,” the other half of MOZA, Cam Nacson says.

“Not bad stuff, just changes. Like I had two of my best mates move overseas and it kind of got us thinking about the roles relationships play on your own personality.

"How friendships, or really any kind of relationships, shape who you are on a day-to-day basis.”

The band also released a mesmerising music video to accompany the song. “I guess we kind of wanted to portray the idea that when you're with the people you love the most, you become your favourite version of yourself.

“When we were thinking about it, there was a lot of stuff going on in the LGBTQI+ community and we wanted to do something that would bring some light to it without being political about it.

"That's where the idea of this guy going through a pretty mundane day-to-day life in a small town, but having this different ultimate persona that he feels the most comfortable with came from.”

Last year MOZA worked with fellow electronic musician Just A Gent, before collaborating with some more unexpected people. “We loved working with Just A Gent, he's just such a great guy and we got to write a song with him last year and go on tour with him,” Cam says.

“[But] I don't think anything will top getting to work with Tina Arena and Dannii Minogue though. We got to do the remake of 'Sorrento Moon' and that was a song that growing up I'd heard and it was so nostalgic going back and listening to it. Then having the task of rethinking it was an incredible experience.”

MOZA have always been known for having an incredibly engaging stage show. “With our live stuff, we've come from playing in a six-piece folk-rock band, so we really wanted to bring that live musicality into every show that we did.

“We've got our own lighting show that we've pre-programmed ourselves and everything's kind of done by us. Our main goal is to just be engaging. So not to just sit behind some decks, but also not have it so we're fiddling behind our instruments and not really paying attention to the audience.”

In March, MOZA will embark on their first ever headline tour. “It's the only headline tour we've ever been on. It's scary, but no matter how big a venue we play or how many people show up it's just something we really have to do.

“Even when we're in the studio, all that we think about is 'we're doing this so that we can go play live'. That's where our passion is.”

When asked about MOZA's plans for 2018, Cam says it will involve more writing. “Well, we're definitely writing at the moment, we've got a few singles that we think have potential to be released as the next one.

"We're pretty busy up until the middle of the year with touring. It's definitely a combination of live stuff and just releasing singles.”
