Brisbane has scored a new world music, dance and cultural festival.
The inaugural MOSAIC Festival is set to celebrate the creative and rich talent of diverse communities across Brisbane and Queensland in Roma Street Parkland.
The event will feature performances from renowned artists including the vibrant and energetic Bustamento, Izalco Latin American Band, Brisbane Babas, Imanzi Rwandan Cultural Dance Group, Ensemble Diaspora and more.
There wil be three stages: Dance Stage featuring headlining world music and dance performances, World Music Stage featuring acoustic ceremonial music performances, and a Cultural Conversations Stage featuring cultural storytelling and solo performances.
Other activities include food and market stalls, global cuisine demonstrations, arts and crafts, youth and kids' activities and even a world fashion show.
Promoter MDA (Multicultural Development Australia) aims to promote multiculturalism and empower people from diverse cultural backgrounds through community development, system advocacy, education and training, and a range of service delivery activities. They support refugees, international students, people seeking asylum, immigrants and our communities in Queensland.
One of the principal ways that MDA achieves its aim of post-settlement community integration is to stage major public cultural events designed to appeal to both the broader Brisbane community as well as engaging diverse communities as both participants and audience. MDA produced the Luminous Lantern Parade at Southbank in June.
