EDM partners in crime Mobin Master and Tate Strauss are living their ‘Dreams’.
With a collection of classic club songs, including the record breaking ‘Show Me Love’, producer Mobin Master has had the kind of success that many dream of. Now on tour in the States with Bob Sinclar, he also has a new release which he produced with friend and long-time collaborator Tate Strauss. ‘Dreams’ lives up to its name with ethereal melodies, sound layering and melancholy vocals from Russian singer Polina Goudieva.
“It's a track that Polina started writing and sent to us through a record label in Italy and asked if we dug it. Tate and I thought it was amazing and decided to create the music behind it, process the vocals and turn it into a song. It's a labour of love on that song, we used a lot of strings and chords to bring out a lot of the emotion that she conveys in her vocals.”
True brothers in arms, Master and Strauss now run the highly successful Safari Records, a completely independent label that’s dedicated to producing high quality dance music. “I didn't think that I'd be running a label this intense. It's actually one of the strongest independent labels in the country now because it's fully independent; we don't have anyone behind us. We're getting a lot of fantastic artists and I think they like the fact that it's DJs making music for DJs and we're also open to current sounds – we want to be cutting-edge.”
The partnership between the two producers has been a harmonious one. “We work together quite easily and we work as a collaboration extremely well. I do a lot of the programming and he sound-shapes and engineers and also does a lot of research on how to get new sounds and develop a new cutting-edge sound or noise.”
In one of their many latest endeavours, the pair recently mixed a disc on Wild Nights together that reached number 22 on the iTunes charts (and the top 10 of the dance chart). “It's a real hands-up, proper festival mix CD, definitely not radio friendly at all. It's a proper EDM quality, cutting edge disc and I really enjoyed doing it and I'm really happy with the tracks that we managed to get on there.”
