Middle Kids Return With Their Second Album, Plus First Headline Shows In 2 Years

Middle Kids
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Three years removed from their J Award-winning debut album 'Lost Friends', Sydney's indie rockers Middle Kids will release their second studio album, the boldly titled 'Today We're The Greatest', in March.

The press release states this is Middle Kids 'most personal and courageous effort to date', with the trio of Hannah Joy, Tim Fitz and Harry Day to also play a small run of east-coast live dates in May – their first Australian headline live dates in two years.

Since the release of 'Lost Friends', the world of Middle Kids has expanded with the group supporting the likes of War On Drugs and Cold War Kids as well as becoming regulars on the US talk-show circuit: Conan, Jimmy Kimmel, James Corden.

Middle Kids recorded 'Today We're The Greatest' in Los Angeles with producer Lars Stalfors (St.Vincent, Soccer Mommy, Purity Ring). "I want to make music that loves its listener," Joy says.

"Music that makes people feel seen, seen in the tiny little places that hide away in their hearts.

"I want people to hear our music, and feel a sense of love. And when I say love, it can be challenging, intense and tough. But it's in the guts."

The current album single, released today, is 'Questions'.

As Joy explains, 'Questions' is about the fallacies of intimate relationships. "I used to drink a lot and most of my previous relationships revolved around this.

"I don't think I ever really knew them or they me as a result. 'Questions' is about people being around each other but not being close.

"People who are in intimate relationships can stop asking questions of each other because they are uncomfortable and confusing."

'Today We're The Greatest' is released on 19 March, 2021. Pre-order it.

Tickets to their May 2021 tour go on sale from 10am local time on 19 January.
