Australian singer-songwriter, Michael Waugh will embark on an east-coast tour from February to April playing major cities as well as host of regional areas.
After releasing his twice Golden Guitar-nominated album 'The Cast' last year, produced with the extraordinarily gifted Shane Nicholson, Waugh has released a music video for the record's fourth single, the deeply personal 'He Taught Me'.With lyrics that paint a vivid picture of growing up as well as Australian country life (Waugh is from the Gippsland region in Victoria), the clip will bring a tear too many an eye – it features a stack of photos of his late father.
"My dad had a wicked sense of humour – I learned so many rude limericks and jokes from him, and you knew never to pull his finger," begins Michael.
"He taught me how to drive a car, how to ride a bike, how to climb through fences on the farm.
"He taught me how to be a good man – the values of integrity and fairness – and always with his characteristic sense of humour.
"Even when he was dying, he was still teaching me about dignity and respect."
'He Taught Me' was one of the few tracks from 'The Cast' featured in Waugh's shows prior to the album's release; it quickly became a fan favourite.
"I loved watching the audience laugh and smile at the beginning of the song, perhaps some recognising their own dads in the lyrics.
"There are usually collective tears at the end, too – from them and me. But, what an honour to get to tell this amazing man's story!"
Nominated for Alt Country Album Of The Year and Heritage Song Of The Year ('Dirty River') at the 2022 Golden Guitar Awards (the ceremony has been postponed to April), Michael is set to tour 'The Cast' for the first time (aside from a limited number of local performances last year).
