Musician, activist and filmmaker, Michael Franti returns to Australia with his band Spearhead for two exclusive concerts as well as a special festival appearance in 2024.
A musical shaman and sonic wizard infused with an infectious positivity that transcends all his performances, Michael Franti and Spearhead will headline concerts in Brisbane and Sydney in November as part of his Togetherness Tour as well as headlining the opening night of 2024 Queenscliff Music Festival (an exclusive Victorian performance)."It's gunna be an awesome tour, we can't wait to see you guys out there. . . see you guys on the Together Tour. Peace!"
Known for his global hits 'Sound Of Sunshine', 'Say Hey (I Love You)' and 'I Got You', last year Franti released 'Big Big Love', his thirteenth studio album with Spearhead. The record reflects the artist's tenacity, inclusiveness and eternal optimism.
In March, we were honoured to premiere the music video for 'Lost But Not Alone', which features on 'Big Big Love'.
"It's a song that's all about the feeling I get sometimes of being totally lost, like nothing in my life or in the world seems to make any sense," shares Michael.
"Then I go out into the world and I meet people who tell me they feel the exact same way and I realise, that although I may feel completely lost, I am never alone. Neither are you."
Franti's most recent music video is for another 'Big Big Love' track, 'The System'. "In our hyper speed, social media world, where the algorithm feeds us what to consume and who to compare ourselves to, pitting left against right, rich against poor, neighbour against neighbour, ethnicities, gender, sexuality and religions against one another, while rewarding extremism over nuance, hate over kindness, and dollars over feelings, it's easy to become frustrated, angry, depressed, paralysed or worse," shares Michael.
"The term 'The System' means something different to everyone. Governments, schools, religious hierarchy, corporate greed, media, war, racism, etc. All of us live our lives within some organised system of perceived authority, that tries to create outcomes by shaping the way we think, feel and behave, often for profit, political gain, or apparently, just to be a pain in our collective asses.
"Today our dopamine-inducing screens often leave us feeling damaged, saddened, sleepless and hopeless about the world and our ability to shape it for good or survive in it at all. Machines that were designed 'to bring us closer together' end up dividing us from each other and ourselves from our souls."
Brisbane and Sydney tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 3 June. Early bird tickets to Queenscliff Music Festival are available.
