Metallers Salacious Bring The Far Northern Spirit To Brisbane

Salacious

Salacious are a band who epitomise the Far Northern spirit.

Relaxed, keen for a chat and a beer, but dedicated to their one, true passion – music.

Since forming in Cairns three years ago, Salacious have fast become favourites in their home town, supporting the likes of Dreamkillers, King Parrot, Hailmary and Bam Margera, and see the opportunity to support bands of this calibre as another stepping stone on their quest for metal domination. “We’ve been fortunate in the fact that we have had the opportunity to play with some of our favourite bands,” vocalist Euan Williams says.

“We view each show as not just a chance to expand our fan base, but also treat them as an opportunity to learn from bands who are where we ultimately want to be.”

Cairns has a reputation for being a fun, party town, which Euan says the band embrace, but it is also home to a growing number of quality, original bands, harking back to the old days when Johno’s Blues Bar used to attract major acts and provide a showcase of the regions talent. “I’m not old enough to really remember Johno’s,” Euan laughs, “but I do remember that Cairns used to have a REALLY strong, local-original scene but that died off for a while. It’s only been the last couple of years that it has started to thrive again. We are fortunate in the fact that we were around to be part of it and I think you will see the music scene grow even more over the coming years.

“We are starting to get a lot more bigger bands come through the region and the local pubs are starting to get behind original music of all forms which can only be a good thing for bands in Cairns.”

While acknowledging the growth of the industry in Cairns, Euan says there is still much to be done to sustain it. “It’s one thing having the bands but you have to maintain a certain level and quality, but again, with the amount of venues supporting original music and providing an outlet to perform, things are only going to get better.”

While being labelled progressive metal, Euan says Salacious are more than just a label, and prefers to let the eclectic nature of their music dictate peoples’ opinions. “We sort of don’t really fit into any particular genre,” he says.

“We just play what we love which is metal, and people can classify it any way they want. As long as they are listening to us and forming an opinion then it shows we are making a connection.”

Now it’s the turn of the people of south east Queensland to form an opinion of Salacious, with the band embarking on a three-day ‘Mouth Of Madness’ tour. “It’s a long way to travel from Cairns to Brisbane so we thought we would play as much as we can while we are there. We are fortunate enough that we are playing in three different areas so we can play to as wide an audience as possible. We can’t wait!

“We don’t really know what to expect, we just know that we are going to have fun and show everyone that Cairns isn’t just there for the babes and the beer – although that’s a pretty good reason on its own!”

Salacious play the Sunshine Coast Brewery on 28th Nov, the Miami Shark Bar on 29th Nov and the New Globe Theatre on 30th Nov.
