Three-plus years removed from winning the Mercury Prize for their sophomore album 'Visions Of A Life', British rockers Wolf Alice are prepping the release of their third record, titled 'Blue Weekend'.
Set for release this winter, the first taste of 'Blue Weekend' is new single 'The Last Man On Earth'.Sitting somewhere between early Muse and Coldplay, with warped pop sensibilities of Beach Boys and The Beatles also filtering through in the second half of the song, 'The Last Man On Earth' is a goosebump-inducing ride that paves the way for another epic collection of songs from Wolf Alice.
"It's about the arrogance of humans," the group's vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist, Ellie Rowsell says.
"I'd just read Kurt Vonnegut's 'Cat's Cradle' and I had written the line: 'Peculiar travel suggestions are dancing lessons from god' in my notes.
"But then I thought: 'Uh, your peculiar travel suggestion isn't a dancing lesson from god, it's just a travel suggestion! Why does everything need to mean something more?'"
When it came to begin work on their third studio album, after the ensuing madness of international tours and endless run of award shows the promotion of 'Visions Of A Life' brought, the band decamped to an Airbnb in Somerset.
It was here they reconfigured who they were together, far away from festival stages, tour buses, awards shows, and fans. They cemented their friendship and set to work on some fledgling demos in a converted church.
These demos evolved into 'Blue Weekend', a record produced by Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire, Björk, Brian Eno, Florence + The Machine).
'Blue Weekend' will be released on 11 June 2021. Pre-order it.
