Melbourne Guitar Show Arrives This Weekend

Albert Lee will perform at 2018 Melbourne Guitar Show (4-5 August).
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Now in their fourth consecutive year, Melbourne Guitar Show have some very special performers lined up this weekend including British-born country-rocker Albert Lee, local virtuoso Daniel Champagne and up-and-comers Rackett.

Playing the Melbourne Guitar Show as part of his seventy-fifth birthday tour, Albert Lee has worked with some of the most respected names in the business, including Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris and The Everly Brothers.

Daniel Champagne, who first hit the road at the age of 18 and is known for his live performances. Returning favourites include Melbourne's own Shannon Bourne, an acclaimed blues-roots guitarist, as well as ARIA recipient Jeff Lang.

Bob Spencer, best known as the guitarist of seminal Aussie band The Skyhooks, is set to make an appearance as well, alongside celebrated acoustic artist Nick Charles.

The women of the Melbourne Guitar Show include 5-time USA Blues Music Awards nominee Fiona Boyes, along with acclaimed alt-country artist Alison Ferrier.

Cat Canteri, who has been making waves both at home and across the seas, is also scheduled to make an appearance, as will veteran rock & roller Nat Allison. Sydney all-girl psych-punk outfit Rackett are also joining the ranks, coming hot off the back of a national tour.

Over 5,000 people gathered at the Caulfield Racecourse last year to attend the family-friendly event, which featured surprise performances from home-grown heroes Oscar Dawson, Ali Barter, Paul Dempsey and Ian Moss.

This year, there will be one floor devoted to electric guitars and another floor to acoustic, with live performances taking place across four stages. There will also be a workshop room, which will run masterclasses, and a 'meet the players' section, where attendees can get up close and personal with some of the greats.

Melbourne Guitar Show takes place this weekend, 4-5 August, at Caulfield Racecourse (Melbourne). Doors open daily at 10am.
