Australian artist Meg Washington will tour Australia late 2024, promoting her new single 'The Hook'.
The first song released from the upcoming Australian movie 'How To Make Gravy' (an adaption of Paul Kelly's iconic Aussie Christmas hit), Washington will headline concerts in Sunshine Coast (x2), Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Frankston and Melbourne November-December."Sparkling, salty, summertime, solo singing shows! A dream. Absolutely delighted to be joined by Jacob Diamond, whose songs can bend the time-space continuum," shares Meg.
Inspiration for 'The Hook' landed after Meg continually heard French electronic producer Petit Biscuit's breakout hit 'Sunset Lover'; she then collaborated with producer Konstantin Kersting (Tones And I, DMA'S, The Jungle Giants, Spacey Jane).
"For ages, I kept hearing this song 'Sunset Lover' everywhere I went. It sounded like a perfect instrumental that was just aching for a melody and a lyric," Meg says.
"I loved the chopped up vocal hook and I wanted to include it within the story of the lyrics, and in the title. The song already feels like melancholy in paradise, I just wanted more detail. It ended up wanting to be a break-up on a beach."
Washington is also heavily involved with the movie adaption of 'How To Make Gravy', co-writing and co-producing the feature with her partner Nick Waterman (who is the director) under their company, Speech and Drama Pictures.
Meg also serves as the movie's executive music producer, with a limited edition vinyl soundtrack to be released 1 December (available for pre-order) that features Paul Kelly and Nina Simone songs as well as new material from Beddy Rays, Electric Fields and Brendan Maclean.
The film will be released later this year on Binge/ Foxtel, and stars Hugo Weaving, Daniel Henshall, Kate Mulvany and French actress Agathe Rousselle among a star-studded ensemble, which also features cameos from several Australian musicians including Briggs and Dallas Woods.
Tickets on sale from 12pm (local time) on 3 October.
