Sydney hip hop outfit Bliss N Eso's Max MacKinnon (MC Eso) has apologised for the images he posted to his Instagram account yesterday after they sparked an outrage.
The images that people are calling 'misogynistic' saw the MC posing alongside various waxworks celebrities at the Madame Tussauds in Hollywood. Intended to be humorous, the images soon stirred a barrage of online backlash.
Having since been deleted, the images had offensive and derogatory captions like “Where did ya throw those fuckin car keys woman!?!”, “#smackmybitch #shelovesthewayithurts” and “#cavebitch #boxbasher #oneeyeonthesnatch”.
Though some fans understood that he was making a (poorly tasted) joke, most people condemned his actions and threatened to boycott his music.
Posting an apology on Instagram this morning, Eso says the photos were shot in a “comedic manner, which upon reflection I realise was in bad taste and unacceptable...Violence against women has no place in our society and I am sincerely sorry for the offence that my previous Instagram posts have caused...The photos were not intended to promote violence.”
