ARIA Award-winning Australilan singer-songwriter Matt Corby has unveiled the first taste of his new album due out later this year with lead single 'No Ordinary Life'.
The song transports the listener into Matt's own kaleidoscopic re-imagining of the world, greatly inspired by the classic Roald Dahl character Willy Wonka (the amazing chocolatier!).
“On 'No Ordinary Life', we were using Willy Wonka as a reference, literally, as a way to write melodies. I know that sounds a bit crazy, but that film has some strong melodic ideology,” Matt says.
“For some reason when you say Willy Wonka, it sets a mood – this magical, hyper-melodic, crooning, beautiful thing, a journey into the whimsical. We tried to make this song and a few others in that vein – as joyous as possible, which is definitely a change to what I used to do.”
It heralds a bold new direction for Matt, with him playing and singing every part on his forthcoming album himself.
