Mastodon @ Festival Hall Review

Mastadon were finally back in town (27 March) after what seamed a long four years; this time, and for the first time, they were the headliners.

There was no lack of confidence present as each member mounted the stage as if it were their own mountain. Mastodon tightly bashed out a mammoth set-list that pleased the innards over every pair of eardrums in the hall – the sound was monsterous.

From the get go nothing was held back as 'Tread Lightly' lifted the tiled roof, followed closely by 'Once More 'Around the Sun' and 'Blasteroid'. 'Aqua Dementia' and 'Ol'e Nessie' sat perfectly in the middle and closing the night were well-loved classics 'Crystal Skull', 'Megladon' and 'Blood & Thunder'. No encores for these beastly, savage men.

Vocalist and bassist, Troy Sanders, twisted and grooved in his trademark manner, which turned the emotional crowed into a blazing frenzy – his steely glare and ridged attitude only encouraged the rage.
