MANE's explosive indie pop and incredibly bold voice will leave you in awe.
The South Australian's last single, 2018's 'Save Yourself', received glowing reviews while another of her 2018 releases, 'Chasing Butterflies', was added to triple j's full rotation.
With a dynamic live show, it's no surprise MANE took to the stage at the Adelaide leg of last year's Groovin The Moo. With another exciting year ahead, you can catch her at Big Pineapple Music Festival as well as the event's after-party.
What are you most excited about performing at Big Pineapple Music Festival (it must be nice as well to escape to QLD at this time of year)?
I've heard great things about Big Pineapple, so I'm looking forward to playing and meeting new people. The weather is a nice, added bonus for sure.
Can we expect to hear any new music?
There's a few new songs in the live set I'll be trying out at Big Pineapple, which I'm looking forward to [playing].
You're also playing the festival's after-party – anything special planned for that show?
Nothing planned, but I'm sure it will be a pretty special time regardless. I played at Solbar on the Tia Gostelow tour back in February and it was one of my favourite places we played.
Do you enjoy playing to regional audiences?
Yeah! It's always cool to play in places you wouldn't often play; the regional crowds always seem to be the most fun.
How was playing SA Groovin The Moo last year; was that the biggest audience you have performed to?
Groovin was heaps of fun last year; at the time it definitely would have been I think, but I've had the good fortune of playing some great shows since then too.
Do you still get nerves before shows; if so, how do you handle that pressure?
Usually I'll have a little bit of nerves going on before I play, which I think is normal. Sometimes it's worse. I usually have a group huddle with the session players before I go on, which helps combat any nerves.
How was it touring NZ recently with Matt Corby? Any interesting tales from the road you can share?
Amazing. NZ is incredible. The shows and the venues were stunning. No crazy stories to report, but I can't wait to go back
What’s the inspiration behind the black and white, almost film noir style artwork for your 'Save Yourself' single?
I did a photo shoot with a friend, Jack Fenby (FENJ), at the start of 2018 and it was one of the pictures he took on the day, and although it didn't fit with the single I'd released at the time I immediately felt it should be the artwork for 'Save Yourself'. So we held onto it for its release. 'Save Yourself' is about reflecting on your behaviour and helping yourself, so it also alludes to a reflection in water.
As a child of non-musician parents, what inspired you to follow a career path into music?
I always listened to music and was passionate about it, but it wasn't until I started teaching myself guitar that I fell into it.
The rest of 2019 for MANE; what is the plan?
Hopefully I'll have some new music soon and potentially a larger body of work.
