Veteran ska-punk outfit Mad Caddies will tour east-coast Australia this summer.
The 'Road Rash', 'Weird Beard' and 'State Of Mind' legends will land in December with headline gigs in Sydney, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart and Melbourne.The Californian band will also headline this year's Ska Nation Music Festival in regional Victoria (Warrion), performing alongside Area 7, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, The Resignators, The Piretska Rebellion, Mister Coffee and others.
The tour marks Mad Caddies first trip down under in a decade, and will be the first with their new line-up that now includes drummer Sean Sellers (Pulley) and guitarist Brandon Landelius (Authority Zero).
A few years ago the Caddies planned to do a 25th anniversary tour of the US, Europe and Oceania – until COVID put those plans to rest.
Mad Caddies' most recent full-length release, 2018's 'Punk Rocksteady', was an album full of punk covers produced by NOFX's Fat Mike.
It was followed by the 2020 original EP, 'House On Fire', which founding member and vocalist Chuck Robertson told Punknews had been shelved in favour of the cover album.
"[Mike's] like, 'new, original music is great but you haven't put out anything in a few years, put out this reggae thing and then put out the sad divorce album after'.
"I go, 'Okay, fine, but then I'm not gonna care about these songs' 'cause I don't feel that way anymore."
The result was "two fun, classic Mad Caddies kind of collaborative dixie jazz, classic Caddies tunes" and three tracks that were outside the band's usual schtick.
Robertson told the publication the Caddies had never been a punk band, just a band that played punk songs. "And it's been less and less over the years," he added. "I mean I'm 42 years old; am I gonna write my teenage angst song over and over!?"
