Lorde has cancelled an Aussie festival performance and plans for another Australian tour so she can spend more time in America.
It's not so bad, though — that Aussie festival performance hadn't actually been announced yet, and neither had those rumoured Aussie tour dates.
Lorde had been booked to play Adelaide festival Gear Up, which was to be announced later this month. The appearance has been cancelled so Lorde can capitalise on her success overseas.
"Unfortunately due to the fact that Lorde is becoming one of the biggest & buzziest artists in the world right now, she is under a lot of pressure from everywhere in the world and it ultimately leads to timelines and goalposts shifting constantly and very quickly," read a statement from Lorde's booking agency.
The NZ pop star's 2014 itinerary includes a 16-date US tour in March, and festival appearances at Coachella and Lollapalooza in April. Lorde had previously teased a return to Australia in "April-ish".
Lorde was actually booked by Gear Up festival organisers all the way back in May 2013, before the release of her 'Pure Heroine' LP or her breakthrough appearance at Splendour In The Grass.
"It's been an amazing rise for Lorde and we are extremely happy for her success," said Gear Up spokesperson Anne Marie Parsons in a statement. "Unfortunately, this success has meant that she has had to pull-out of her commitment to appear at Gear Up 2014. Of course we are extremely disappointed Lorde will not perform."
Alpine and a Miami Horror DJ set have been announced as Lorde's replacements on the Gear Up bill. The event takes place on Friday February 28 at UniSA's City West Campus and will also feature Pond, San Cisco, Deep Sea Arcade, The Kill Girls, Tkay Maidza, Bottlerockest, Valkyries, Dead End Friends, and DJ Faint One.
That makes Laneway Festival your last chance to see Lorde in Australia for quite a while — having already rolled through Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, the boutique festival will visit Adelaide and Perth this week.
