The original 68-second lo-fi party jam about young romance, 'Marlboro Nights' showered Baltimore bedroom artist Lonely God in social media fame.
The track has so far been streamed almost 118 million times (and climbing), with Lonely God now a legit TikTok influencer with more than a million views of his videos on the social networking platform.Building on that momentum, Lonely God has pared with another hyper-pop upstart with Indiana rapper Midwxst ('Trying', 'Smile') adding a smoking verse to the original 'Marlboro Nights'.
"You can say that I'm at fault, but we all know that's a lie / You always claim you're on my side, don't put in effort, never try / Baby I think you're my kryptonite."
Part of the next-gen of indie artists blurring the lines between indie pop and hip hop, Lonely God and Midwxst influences include 100 gecs, Juice WRLD, blackbear, Rex Orange County, Best Coast and Wallows.
Lonely God's TikToks are a mix of vids answering other users comments mostly (does his Dad work for TikTok, name my dog/ band, whether his poos hurt - WTF). He can also do crosswords really, really fast.
