Liza-Jane's Top 5 Comedies

Liza Jane
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Her seamless fusion of folk and pop sees Liza-Jane rising quickly throughout the local ranks of the South-East Queensland music scene.

Hailing from Perth, having travelled Australia extensively, and now enchanting audiences around the Gold Coast's bevy of quaint haunts, Liza-Jane connects with listeners through raw, heart-felt song. Her lyrics unveil an unassuming honesty and whilst her songs have often been described as poetic and minimalistic, her infectious hooks and colourful melodies are sure to leave you wanting more of this up and coming songstress.

"I love a good chuckle. For someone who writes such melancholy music at time, I think it surprises some people when they hear me cracking up after a gig at a sneeze or a funny shaped spoon. Lol. Here are my top 5 go-to comedies guaranteed to get me giggling like there’s no tomorrow."

‘Liar Liar’

Jim Carrey is just an absolute Godsend to the world of comedy in my eyes. The amount of energy this man puts into his performances surpasses what even seems to be humanly possible. “Your honor, I object!”, “And why is that Mr. Reede?”, “Because it’s devastating to my case!”, “Overruled.”, “Good call!”

‘Fawlty Towers’

John Cleese. Need I say more? He gets so frazzled in this show that by the end of each episode, his hair’s a mess, his veins are popping, there’s sweat dripping down his face and he’s yelling British insults at everyone and everything, so loud that you can almost hear the microphone distorting. Gets me every time.

‘Black Books’

Dylan Moran’s ability to play such a wretched character with this mysterious sense of charm will never cease to amaze me. Bernard Black is cynical, sarcastic, dark, dreadful, dreary and yet totally loveable. My actual hero.  “Bernard..do you think I should shave my beard?”, “Yes, yes I do. I think you should shave it off, nail it to a frisby and fling it over a rainbow”.

‘Anchor Man’

I think it’s safe to say that the award for ‘Best Yell’ goes to Will Ferrell. The thing I love about him is his ability to yell and keep his eyes perfectly still. All the expression is in the yell. It’s amazing.. it’s a gift. “It’s terrible! She has beautiful eyes and her hair smells like cinnamon!”

‘Hot Rod’

I can’t even explain how much I love this movie. It’s just too good. I haven’t seen it in a while but I am craving a good dose of Rod and his outbursts of rage. ‘It’s so nice to see him smiling again’, ‘You know what won’t make him smile?.. WHEN I MURDER HIM!’

Liza-Jane will play @SEED at QPAC tonight.
