With a number of industry heavyweights already confirmed as speakers (Bill Hauritz from Woodford Folk Festival and Ted Gardner who has managed Tool and Jane's Addiction), the next instalment of music conference Turn Up Sunshine Coast Music Industry Conference will also feature the musical talents of three Sunshine Coast rising stars: Nicole McKinney, Mason Hope and Doolie.
Mason Hope has had an incredible past 12 months, winning the 2016 Gympie Music Muster talent search and bringing home the trophy to Australia as the 2017 Trans Tasman Entertainer Of The Year (which was held on Norfolk Island) as well as performing at Bluesfest 2017.
A 2016 Queensland Music Award winner (schools category), Doolie is an alt-pop songstress who is currently studying a Bachelor of Popular Music at Queensland Conservatorium; Nicole McKinney, who believes music is in her blood, moved to Australia from Dubai when she was 8 and has been playing guitar since she was 13.
With 50 per cent of tickets already sold to Turn Up, the conference will have Ted Gardner in conversation with Dennis Dunstan. Ted, an established manager and festival promoter, reveals the secrets of how to manage international bands and survive in the USA.
Ted has managed such bands and acts as Tool, Jane’s Addiction, The Verve, Queens of the Stone Age and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Ted also worked as the tour manager/ production manager for Frank Zappa, UFO, Echo & The Bunnymen, New Order, The Sugarcubes, Crowded House and Jane’s Addiction.
Ted was also a co-founder of The Lollapalooza Festival in Los Angeles that ran for many years. Dennis Dunstan has managed such bands as Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Men at Work, AirSupply and others over the years.
Another speaker is Bill Hauritz, Festival Director of Woodford Folk Festival, who will be in conversation with Eloise Gallagher speaking about how to transform a local festival into an internationally acclaimed cultural event. Other panels will include the importance of brand building, image making, and how music can shape the culture of a city.
