Little Bigsound: Growing Future Music Professionals

Tim Price
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

As a guest speaker at next month’s Little Bigsound, Tim Price — who runs local artist management company Pricewar Music — promises to plant seeds of inspiration into the minds of our aspiring music industry fledglings.

The annual conference is giving aspiring 15-25 year olds a chance to fill their minds with industry relevant info. Now in its fourth year, Little Bigsound offers the next generation of music professionals the chance to experience the industry within an interactive environment. Through panels and workshops, participants will learn from some of the best in the business.

Tim is a music teacher by trade, and for the last three years Little Bigsound has given him the opportunity to share his knowledge. “I particularly like passing on information to younger generations and so I asked to be involved. I said, ‘look, I'm really keen to be involved here are the couple of different things that I can offer’ and they gratefully accepted my offer of help.”

This years line-up of speakers has some big names and when asked who he’s looking forward to Tim didn't hesitate in mentioning a talented Brisbane musician. “Jeremy Neale has a lot to offer. He's a great speaker and loves sharing his experience and knowledge and he's a hilariously funny guy as well. He holds a crowd well, he actually really knows what he's talking about and he's very passionate about it as well.”

The day will also include a select number of live performances. Tim mentions Sahara Beck as a standout performer with a great future in the industry. Describing her music style as folk/ bluesy and funny/ quirky beyond her years Tim commented: “Her songs; you can't believe they've been written by a teenager”.

The best part about bringing the youth together at Little Bigsound is the community environment where there’ll be plenty of opportunities to network and build new relationships. “It could be that you meet other musicians there that end up playing in a band with you, or it could be that you meet someone there who's keen to be a music manager and you have a band and perhaps eventually you end up in a music artist relationship.”

It's not just for newcomers either that should participate. Tim invites previous attendees to get involved again. “The music industry never stops growing and changing, so if you've been in the past you can pretty much be guaranteed that there's going to be new information that comes out. It's 12 months in between conferences. There's always new challenges, new laws and regulations and new technology that's changing the landscape of the music industry.”
