Library Siesta Are Haunted By The Future

Sydney's Library Siesta are bringing their darker side to the stage, performing tracks off their debut album 'Future Haunts'.

Main vocalist and guitarist Breanna Jones describes the group's first album as the “most honest and upfront” work the band has ever produced.

While 'Future Haunts' – released last month – maintains the raw energy they have had since the band's beginnings, this latest release contains songs that touch on anxiety and depression, with Jones stating the lyrics were “the most personal she's done”.

The new tracks tread the line between sombre and electric, and will transfer well to their live gigs with an extra pinch of raw, riot-grrl-style energy. “Between the four of us 'Diazepam' is our favourite song. It gets pretty gnarly at the end, and is really fun to play live.”

Library Siesta 01 16When talking about the band's origins, Breanna says it's not as simple as saying the band started on a specific date. “It should be a simple question, but it's actually complicated. Me and the other guitarist have been playing together since around 2010. With the current line-up we've been playing around a year and a half.”

Paul Macadam and Spike Thomson were recruited into the band in 2014. Breanna initially began writing material by using a toy ukulele on which she learnt to play music.

The next step was performing with a six-string at local house-parties. “When you play those house shows they're so intimate that everyone gets to know each other. You're making fans, but you're also making friends through those networks that are created. It's certainly true for us that those house shows helped build our band's foundation and following.”

It has been 2.5 years since the band last had an interstate tour, which was to promote their first EP, 'Every Song Is Special'. That will change later this month. “It's been a while since we've been to Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide; really looking forward to it.”

The group have also released a film clip for the first single off the album, 'Natalie Wood'. The video, filmed and edited in a day, sees Breanna drink a bottle of wine while home alone and follows her drunken antics, which includes playing Scrabble against a plush toy that's wearing a Bert Newton mask and showering fully clothed with the bottle of wine in hand.
