Legendary musician Leonard Cohen will return to Australia (and New Zealand) for a series of enigmatic performances throughout November and December.
Cohen — and his nine piece band, featuring the likes of Sharon Robinson, the infamous Webb Sisters and musical director Roscoe Beck — will play all the major cities you'd expect as well as regional shows in Cairns, Townsville and Wollongong. He'll also play two A Day On The Green shows at Hunter Valley's Bimbadgen Winery (NSW) and Geelong's The Hill Winery (VIC).
Last time Cohen was here, he sold out 14 dates, including Frontier Touring's first show at Hanging Rock. That performance later earned Cohen the Helpmann Award for Best International Contemporary Concert.
As famed for his literary prowess as he is for his music, Cohen's Prince of Asturias Award for Literature sits alongside his inductions into both America and Canada's Music Hall Of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame.
Albums like Songs Of Leonard Cohen, Songs Of Love And Hate, I'm Your Man, The Future, Ten New Songs, Dear Heather and 2012's Old Ideas — a discography spanning six decades — are considered classics, but he might be best known for the famous covers of his songs.
Everyone from U2, REM, Sting, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright and Johnny Cash have had a crack at Cohen's catalogue, with Jeff Buckley's rendition of 'Hallelujah' standing atop a crowded field of contenders.
