Rocking frontwoman Lecia Louise has been busy in the studio, working on new material which she will debut with a string of local, live shows.
“The start of this year we're putting out a single first, then the EP. This time I got to record more of the tracks with Brisbane producer Jeff Lovejoy. He's worked with Powderfinger among many other bands.
“The record is a bit more consistent in the sense I recorded mostly in one studio, as opposed to previous albums where I recorded in different states and different countries.”
Her upcoming EP titled 'Per Te' contains the singles 'Individual', which is a particular live favourite of Lecia's, and new release 'Shock Me'.
Listening to her music, you can hear the guitar-rock sound of the '60s and '70s, and it was her love of this music that inspired her. “Bands like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Cream. All that real guitar-driven-rock songs. There were so many good rock bands at that time. As a kid I started listening to Hendrix from my sister, and the guitar really blew me away as well as the showmanship.”
Lecia's musical style may be influenced by the artists she mentions, but her lyrical content is very much reflective of her own life. “[Lyrical inspiration] comes from so many different places. It comes from different moods I might be feeling. Travel has a big part to do with it as well as just general life experiences.”
Lecia's side project, Lani and Lecia, sees her involved in partnership with Gold Coast musician Lani creating music that incorporates beat-boxing, live looping, mouth trumpet and electric guitar. “We took about a year off,” Lecia says.
“We're actually doing some gigs up north in March. Hopefully we can get back into it. We have a DVD out ['Beautiful You Live'], and we still plug it.”
