Indie artist LAVELIN has today released her debut EP, 'Forget About Us', a four-track set dripping in lyrical drama and relationship blues that's bathed in a glittering, dazzling sonic landscape that'll brighten even the most lovelorn individual.

Love and all its highs and lows are a flowing theme throughout 'Forget About Us', with the Brisbane-Gold Coast musician exploring rose-coloured, endorphin-rushing devotion, unrequited feelings, and toxic patterns, while relinquishing emotion by dropping the heavy baggage.

From the upbeat, trippy bop that is the grungy electro-pop ballad 'Blind' that's flush with emotion to the atmospheric pop, sleek disco beat of 'Addicted' with its seductively cool '90s-sounding hook, the first half of 'Forget About Us' is a buoyant ride despite the breakup vibes being strong.

By the time the EP's title track commences LAVELIN's attitude has shifted to ending the relationship on her terms, darker synthpop tones washing over the seductive bassline with LAVELIN's vocals exuding a boss lady frame of mind.

Quirky pop and stylish electropop highlights final track 'Shed' as LAVELIN, who has cried out all her tears, is ready to move on and become 'who she was born to be'.

"'Forget About Us' is a breakup EP, to say the least. Lyrically, it is a deeply analysed, chronological account of the downfall of young poisonous love," LAVELIN says. "Sonically, it represents the rebellious urge one feels to stand up for themselves in such toxicity, flick their hair, check their nails and walk away."

Although still a relative newcomer on the scene, LAVELIN – JMC QLD's 2022 Alumni Act Of The Year – has already collaborated with Ian Haug of Powderfinger as well as provided support on recent tours for The Delta Riggs, Hachiku of Milk Records, and Iluka.

"It feels amazing to finally release the EP. I shortlisted this EP to 20 great songs 2 years ago. The process of culling, writing, rewriting, producing, and sharing this body of work has been MASSIVE!

"All the hard work has definitely been worth it, the music is being really well received both here in Australia and overseas. It has been a rewarding experience to focus on actualising a part of myself through music. I have never worked so hard towards something, and I am completely addicted to the rush."

BLIND

The EP kicks off with 'Blind'. 'Blind' was like this cathartic realisation where I recognised that my boyfriend didn't even like me. I later found out that he had had a crush on me for a long time, a crush that formed before we had really talked or anything.

When we hooked up years later, it was like he had this preconceived notion of me. I felt like there were three people in that relationship: him, me, and the person he imagined me to be.

ADDICTED

This is where I really realise I am literally high on this fake love. I had tried to leave this toxic relationship many times! Every time I failed, I felt a bit weaker and oddly more dependent on the cause of my pain, gross!

FORGET ABOUT US

Track three is my favourite, 'Forget About Us'. This is where I found my absolute power, no more breaking my boundaries, no more listening to cheap talk, no more getting sucked into a situation I didn't want to be in.

It's my independence anthem forever and always. I will never hand over my power to anyone ever again, and I cannot wait for a small army of listeners stepping into their power with the song to form, let's go!

SHED

Track four is 'Shed', possibly the most important. 'Shed' is the breath of fresh air you take when you are finally free from your constraints, sitting with yourself, asking, 'what's next baby doll?' And the answer? The answer is whatever the hell you want, you deserve the world.
