Last Ever QUT Indie 100 Is Recording

For the last time ever, QUT’s Independent Music Project has announced the successful artists that will participate in the final edition of Indie 100.

The Indie 100 is a unique project that features South East Queensland's finest emerging musicians and songwriters recording 100 songs in 100 hours.



Since applications closed in April, a panel of industry judges have listened to hundreds of applications and had the difficult task of selecting only 72 artists. QUT Professor of Music Phil Graham said that the project offered artists the opportunity to gain a unique edge in a fiercely competitive industry.

“This year I think we have the most exciting new crop of emerging talent in the five years since the Indie 100 first started. The entries were all of such high calibre that it was really hard to narrow it down.”


Making the cut in 2015 were TAFE Queensland East Coast music students Jesse Taylor and EmJ Dau (graduated 2014) who will join 70 other handpicked indie and folk artists for the last ever QUT Indie 100 initiative this month.

TAFE Queensland East Coast music teacher, Eloise Gallagher said Indie 100 provided artists with a great opportunity to showcase their work in a tough industry. “I’m so excited and proud of EmJ and Jesse and wish them every success in the project,” she added.

The recording is underway at QUT’s Gasworks Studio in Newstead until Friday 29 May where musicians will have the opportunity to have their music professionally recorded, produced and mixed.
 
Previous artists who have taken part in the project and gone on to achieve national attention include Art of Sleeping, Jungle Giants, Sahara Beck, Michelle Xen and The Belligerents.
