Last Dinosaurs Wellness Tour Set To Commence

Last Dinosaurs
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Last Dinosaurs have recently returned to Australia after touring South-East Asia, playing headlining shows in Bangkok and Jakarta.

“Going to Asia, it's not rare but it's sort of a special occasion, so people freak out a bit,” guitarist-vocalist Sean Caskey says. “It's also weird because I actually think that we are probably more well-known in Thailand than we are in Australia [laughs] particularly Bangkok. One of the other times we were there, it was five times in one day we got stopped in the street for photos, we were at a bar and everyone was trying to grab us.

“Every time we play there the shows are quite large, just really good and they get really into it. It's kind of a shock every time but it's so much fun.”

In addition to touring Asia six times in the last four years, the boys have toured the UK and South Africa as well as Australia many times. Among their creative endeavours, it wasn't the location that was inspiring new material, but the bands they'd come across along the way. “I've never found that location impacts on our music at all. But one thing that does, is just watching other bands,” he says. “I guess it's mainly the bands we see on our travels rather than the actual location.”

2015 was an outstanding year for Last Dinosaurs. They released their second album 'Wellness', (which scored them a Top 20 debut in the ARIA charts) and embarked on two, national headline tours.

The boys have recently announced their national 'Miracle Methods' tour. Last Dinosaurs are going back to where it all began and giving fans the opportunity to experience a more personal performance for the last tour of the 'Wellness' album. “There's a lot of songs that we haven't played in a long, long time.

"We sort of just stuck to a good set and stuck to those songs for years. I was thinking about bringing back some old songs that we haven't played in ages that people keep asking for and maybe some other songs off 'Wellness' that we haven't played yet either.

“The main thing is that it's going to be real intimate, we haven't done it in ages. It's something we have missed and probably won’t do it again for a while. Over time we've stepped it up in terms of venue size which you're supposed to do, but doing that you sort of lose the intimacy of a live performance when you go to big venues, so we decided to go to clubs because we sort of miss doing club shows.”

Already back in the studio, they are now gearing up to record the next album. “We've finished some songs already. Really keen to record them properly and see how they go as an album.”

But this doesn't necessarily mean they'll be playing any sneak peaks during the upcoming tour. “When we play new songs, it freaks us out the most because people just want to listen, they don't know how to react to it but it makes you think 'ah shit is this a bad song?' You can’t engage anything. We like to keep the new ones until they're out.”
