Seminal and ground-breaking electronic outfit, Kraftwerk return to Australia at the end of 2023.
Regarded by many as the OGs of electronic music, the German group pioneered many aspects of the scene that remain today, half a century since Kraftwerk emerged from West Germany's krautrock scene.Their use of synthesisers, drum machines, and vocoders would influence the likes of New Order, Depeche Mode, Devo, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Daft Punk, Underworld, Moby and many, many more.
The multimedia project was started in 1970 by Ralf Huetter and Florian Schneider (the latter remained a member until 2008; he died from cancer in 2020).
In their contemporary live performances, Huetter and his team – Henning Schmitz (sound effects, live keyboards), Falk Grieffenhagen (electronic percussion) and Georg Bongartz (live video technician) – illustrate the belief in the respective contributions of both man and machine.
By bringing together electronic music computer animations and performance art, Kraftwerk concerts are a true 'Gesamtkunstwerk – a total work of art'.
In 2014 Huetter and Schneider were honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In October 2021 Kraftwerk were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
Tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 19 July.
