Kilter’s No Longer In A Tangle

Kilter
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Kilter has done the club circuits and supported the likes of Rüfüs, Art Vs Science and The Kite String Tangle.

Now the electronic prodigy from Sydney is headlining his first tour to celebrate the release of the 'Shades' EP. “I've done a club tour, but this is the first with venues like the Oxford Factory or Shebeen where everyone there will be buying tickets to see me. Which is a pretty crazy thought. It's kind of scary to be honest,” Kilter says.

“I've been doing lots of support tours, but it's completely different because on those tours there's no pressure to sell tickets. You're kind of there for the ride and warming everyone up for the main act.”

Kilter has been out and about with the acts he has supported, having loose times with awesome friends Rüfüs and enjoying an unlikely experience during a February tour. “On The Kite String tour we went skydiving which was awesome. We had a couple days in Melbourne when we were playing the same venue every night so we left our gear there set up and ready to go. So we had lots of time in the day.

“We decided one night to get tickets for the next morning and went out to Yarra Valley I think, an hour out of town and jumped out of an aeroplane. Hadn't done that before, so it was pretty fun. It was tandem, and the guy that was strapped to me was a massive Kite String Tangle fan, but he didn't know who Danny was until we were up in the air; he got real excited right before we jumped out.”

Kilter also dropped a hint that there could be a special surprise or two in the works for punters who see him play at Splendour. “I'll see who is around because I've done a couple of songs with artists that might just be hanging around up there like Citizen Kay. If they are there it'd be sick to get them involved with something. I think it's important when you're doing electronic shows to get as much engagement as you can instead of just making it a DJ set. Whether it's playing live instruments yourself or getting vocalists up, I think it makes a massive difference.”
