Melbourne based alt-rockers Kill Dirty Youth have split… their latest release with their mates Rathead to produce ‘The Split EP’.
“The boys and I from Rathead, we’ve been friends for quite some time and originally it started as an idea to do a tour together,” Kill Dirty Youth vocalist Tony Clay explains.
“Rathead had some recordings that they’d done already towards the end of last year and we were at the pub one night talking about it. I said we had a couple of songs and suggested we do a split, if they were interested.
“Everyone was keen on the idea and that way it gives us something to tour. It was more or less a spur of the moment thing but something we as Kill Dirty Youth have wanted to do for a while. It really just came from the idea of wanting to do a tour together.”
Originally hailing from New South Wales and now based in Melbourne, Tony says Kill Dirty Youth are looking forward to playing some home-town shows. “We try and do the small tours, what we call weekenders,” he says.
“We’ve been doing that for the past two and half year since we’ve been down in Victoria, so we love running back up the coast and going up to home which is the Newcastle area. It’s great fun and the people that you meet and all the stuff you get up to, it’s a whole lot of fun. It’s like preparing to go to battle,” he laughs.
Kill Dirty Youth have already racked up some miles on the road, recently touring with Clowns on their ‘Dead In The Summer’ tour, which Tony says proved to be a successful venture. “That was unreal. That was one of the best, if not the best, tour we’ve done so far,” he says.
“We're so honoured Clowns asked us along for the tour and it was just great. Every show was so good and we wanted to be the best we could be because they’re such a great band live and they’re all great performers, so that pushed us to be on top of our game and show their fan base what we do.”
When Kill Dirty Youth and Rathead hit the road for their ‘Split EP' tour, fans can expect a high-octane show with all the raw energy and power the lads can muster. “We like to put on a show,” Tony says.
“We’re quite raw when it comes to our stage presence and performance. We just go out there every night and give it what we got and we like to get the crowd involved. It’s pretty much balls-to-the-wall when we get on stage. We go gung-ho and they can expect a wild show.
"We like to go crazy and make sure everyone’s having a good time rocking out.”
