The ultimate chill and casual Sunday arvo session brimming with stripped-back live music, Perth's Suburban Vibes is back with another double dose of creative brilliance.
The mesmerising vocals of acclaimed indie artist Katy Steele (Little Birdy) will be joined by the laidback stylings of east-coast folk-blues artist Kim Churchill, when Suburban Vibes takes over Cottesloe Civic Centre Gardens (29 May).A series of concerts that began in backyards several years ago, Suburban Vibes have since hosted some of the finest singer-songwriters Australia has to offer featured in some stunning locales – from beautiful laneways to picturesque garden settings.
An established presence on the indie scene, Churchill is a multi-instrumentalist (blues harp, stomp box, drums, percussion instruments, lapsteel and tambourine) who recently played Byron Bay's Bluesfest.
His new single is 'Fighter' from a forthcoming album he's described as 'layered guitars and blues-infused soundscapes'.
Steele's ethereal voice will return to the stage at Suburban Vibes, her first live show since the birth of her second child.
With a career that spans a number of decades, Katy will perform material from a new solo album as well as digging into her back catalogue including a few Little Birdy gems.
"Can't wait to spend a Sunday afternoon in Cottesloe playing to you all. May 29th. BYO picnic and all ages," shares Katy.
Adds event organiser Regan Grant: "The focus of the evenings is on the musicians and their stories, asking audience members to immerse themselves in the sounds, while also getting the chance to mingle with friends and the musicians themselves.
"Whether the musician is a homegrown, mostly unknown talent, or a travelling big name from interstate, Suburban Vibes gives them the chance to really tell their story, inviting audiences along for the ride.
"We love to take the music out of dingy basements, crowded clubs and impersonal theatres with uncomfortable seats, overpriced drinks, and long lines.
"Suburban Vibes is about creating a space for intimate and chilled performances and good vibes – just perfect for these times."
Suburban Vibes with Katy Steele and Kim Churchill plus guests Alivan Blu and Helen Shanahan plays Cottlesloe Civic Centre Gardens (Perth) 29 May (from 3pm).
