This November marks the 20th anniversary of Josh Pyke's debut EP, 'Feeding The Wolves', which launched the singer-songwriter onto a journey of international touring and seven studio albums – all of which have debuted in the ARIA Albums Top 10 chart.
Nominated for Best Pop Release at 2006 ARIA Awards with EP track 'Middle Of The Hill' lodging at #19 on the Hottest 100 count, Pyke will celebrate the milestone with a national run of shows this November. "🐺FTW is 20 years old! To celebrate, I will be revisiting the tracks and telling stories about how they came to be," posted Josh.Set to headline concerts in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, Pyke will perform an intimate, stripped-back set of material honouring 'Feeding The Wolves' as well as a career that has seen him play Glastonbury and Sydney Opera House, win multiple awards (ARIA Awards, APRA Awards, Air Awards) as well as release his own series of children's picture books.
"Twenty-one years ago, I was working in a record store, chipping away at demos for a solo project, and dreaming of being a full-time musician," shares Josh. "One year later I signed with Ivy League Records, released 'Feeding The Wolves', and my entire life changed.
"I remember playing the Sydney leg of the Big Day Out in 2005 and seeing the crowd trickle in during my set until it was at capacity by the end. The same day, 'Middle Of The Hill' entered the Hottest 100 at number 19, and I pretty much hit the road touring and never stopped.
"FTW was nominated for an ARIA that same year, and suddenly I was sitting at a table pinching myself, surrounded by artists whose records I'd been selling at the store the year before.
"I was signed to Island Records in the UK and Europe, and started heading back and forth across the world touring in the UK, mixing records in New York and playing festivals like Glastonbury.
"It was a wild time, and I feel like it's only now that I can reflect on it with a bit of distance. This 20-year period has been the craziest whirlwind and the biggest adventure I could have ever imagined.
"I can't wait to play the songs and tell the stories that kicked that adventure off to celebrate a career that I'm immensely grateful for, and incredibly proud of."
The live shows are also packaged with the news 'Feeding The Wolves' will be released on vinyl for the very first time on 24 October (pre-order it); a definite full-circle moment for the former record store clerk.
Tickets on sale from 3pm (local time) on 25 June.
