The latest release from Cape Town’s modern folk muso Jeremy Loops, debuted at #1 on the South African charts.
Produced by Will Hicks, who has also worked with Bastille and Ed Sheeran, the beachy grooves on ‘Critical As Water’ are as warm and effusive as ever.
The album’s rich layering of drums, guitars, soaring vocals and brass embellishments take listeners through a series of sun-drenched tableaux, from early-morning surfs in crystallised water to late-night dancing, barefoot on the sand.
Jeremy says that the album is “the most beautiful piece of music I’ve ever made” and he credits the restorative power of water for inspiring many of its tracks.
Accompanying lush tracks like ‘Gold', which celebrates new love and new horizons, are also songs that address the jarring environmental crisis in the singer’s home town of Cape Town, South Africa that is set to be the first major city in the world to run out of water (its government will turn off the taps that supply four million Cape Town residents in April 2018).
On ‘Dreaming Again,’ Jeremy uses his platform to warn listeners that there’s ‘nowhere to run from the hurtful divide in this world’, but hopes we can all make small sacrifices that lead us back to a paradise dream. “The joyful highs [of ‘Critical As Water’] are tempered by the real urgency of the problems the world is facing,” Jeremy says.
'Critical As Water’ is available now and is supported by a world tour that will see Jeremy head to Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand.
