An icon of Detroit techno who morphed into a multi-faceted artist spanning contemporary art as a plastician and cinematic soundtracks focused mainly on space and sci-fi themes, not to mention a record label owner for 30-plus year (Axis Records), veteran DJ-producer Jeff Mills returns to Australia in 2024 to debut a new live project.
Tomorrow Comes The Harvest was born from the collaborative project Mills instigated with the late Afrobeat creator and Nigerian drummer Tony Allen who along with veteran keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary toured together until Allen's untimely death in 2020.Their creative union has continued with Mills and Dary now joined by Tabla virtuoso Prabhu Edouard to continue the concept of 'exploring the unknown, transcending by the way of intersecting sounds and rhythm through an array of improvisational movements' as Tomorrow Comes The Harvest.
In September, the trio released an album titled 'Evolution' that they've been touring across European festivals and theatres furthering the experience of reaching higher levels of consciousness.
"The Tomorrow Comes The Harvest performances are all improvisational and music is performed instinctively, not pre-prepared or 'planned'," shares Jeff.
"This unique technique of performing or 'communicating' goes way back to primitive times, but in the modern era, blues or free jazz.
"For this to play out well, each member of the band, by their own nature, should be good conversationist with a lot on the mind! And it is this aspect that makes these Tomorrow Comes The Harvest performances so unique. They are 'one and only' occurrences. Never to be repeated or replicated."
