DJ Jazzy Jeff will play an intimate show at hidden Surry Hills hotspot The Soda Factory this weekend.
The legendary hip hop DJ supposedly popped into the venue to sample their American diner menu when he arrived in town for his show at The Ivy, and enjoyed the space so much he requested to play a show there.
"Jeff said an intimate surprise show would be an amazing gesture for his local fan base," said owner Graham Cordery. "I'm delighted to announce that after his Sydney show on Saturday December 14, the Grammy Award-winning DJ Jazzy Jeff will be spinning at The Soda Factory along with his MC, Skillz."
Best known for his chart-topping collabs with Will Smith (aka The Fresh Prince, obviously), and having sold over 10 million albums, Jeff has become one of the most respected and influential names in hip hop for his skill as a turntablist.
Previous drop-ins at The Soda Factory include Jason Mraz, Foals, Greg Wilson, Joey Negro, and Grandmaster Flash. Most of those were surprises, but this time you've been given a heads-up.
There'll be no cover charge for Jeff's show at The Soda Factory.
Earlier in the day, he'll play The Ivy Pool Club's daytime pool party (12pm-7pm).
