After staging a successful inaugural event in 2021, Jazz By The Beach returns to Perth's Scarborough (27-28 August) for two days of roaring jazz feels that'll transport music lovers to the New Orleans French Quarter.
Set to host 50 musicians and 15 individual events in 10 venues across the Scarborough foreshore, the entire Jazz By The Beach programme features local world-class musicians including Libby Hammer Trio, Adam Hall Trio, Russell Holmes and Simone Craddock as well as the festival's founder-organiser Catherine Summers."We want to give people the experience of a New Orleans French Quarter feel and buzz with jazz spilling onto the streets, and where visitors can easily walk from one jazz venue to another," Catherine says.
The festival features a mix of free and ticketed events that will take place from brunch to lunch, afternoon into sundowner and evening parties; there's even a black-tie event. Enjoy 'Gin and Jazz Legends' at The Scarborough Beach Bar, or indulge in brunch and coffees as jazz-funk trio's take over at Livid Skate or 'Oceanview Jazz Lunch' at Zoie.
There's also the chance to catch feature performances like a showcase of four of Perth's top piano trios at The Rendezvous Piano Lounge or get your dancing shows on at 'Jazz Party! In The Style Of Postmodern Jukebox' at The Sandbar.
Catherine will be performing at the highlight event, 'A Swinging Gatsby Jazz Soiree with Catherine Summers' New Orleans Nine' in the Ballroom at The Rendezvous as well as at a floor-to-ceiling glass ocean view room within The Rendezvous for a Sunday sundowner.
"It's great to have such iconic beachfront ocean view venues involved, The Sandbar, The Scarborough Beach Bar, Zoie and more all giving people both a world-class jazz music experience and a world-class ocean beachfront view," Catherine says.
"Our first year was in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, so it's exciting to bring back Jazz By The Beach and showcase these incredible acts without restrictions and providing a much-needed boost to a struggling local arts scene.
