Got the munchies? Get a taste of English DJ/ producer Jax Jones and his debut album 'Snacks'.
The release of 'Snacks' cements Jax’s status as one of the industry’s most prominent forces following the succession of eight huge singles.
Since bursting on the scene in 2016 with his single ‘House Work’, Jax Jones has proved himself to be a genre-defying artist producing and releasing music that spans across pop, house and urban.
Drawing on a diverse number of musical influences as well as working with a hand-selected ensemble of musicians, in true Jax Jones style every track on 'Snacks' is distinct both sonically and lyrically yet infuses his signature beats and style. Some of the artists who worked with Jax on 'Snacks' include RAYE, Bebe Rexha, Ella Henderson and Demi Lovato.
With the album dropped back in September and climbing the charts, Jax now gears up for a trip to Australia as part of FOMO Festival in January with shows in Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne.
Before he gets here, we track down Jax for a chat about the new album, working with kick-ass collaborators, what's in-store for Australia audiences next year and of course, snacks.
“Australians are pretty lit.” - Jax Jones
Top 10 UK album, selling out my biggest ever headline show in London, touring the US with Zedd. It’s been a good year.
Congratulations on your debut album 'Snacks'. What has it taken to get to this point of your career?
Wow. Big question. At the end of my album is a track called 'Tequila Time'; I say my thanks to all the musical influences and people around me who have helped me get to this point. Finishing an album was one of the most difficult things I’ve done, so to see it connect the way it has is amazing.
The album features some great collaborations; what did they each bring to the record?
I mean, shout-out to all the strong women who’ve featured on the album; I loved working with all the feature artists and they each bring their own individuality to the record.
Did you have a strict vision for what you wanted to achieve with the album?
I wanted every track on the album to be as good as a single and be able to stand in their own right.
What sort of show are you bringing to FOMO in Australia next year?
You’ll have to come and see.
Your impressions of Australian live crowds?
I’ve not managed to make it to Australia too much, so I’m looking forward to coming for a longer stint and getting to know everyone. But the few times I have played here, everyone sings every word to all my songs; you guys are pretty lit.
Let's go shopping – we're heading down the snack aisle, what's going in the trolley?
Some good cheese, champagne, biscuits and popcorn.
Hey, they're playing one of your songs on the grocery store radio – how do we celebrate?
Weyyyyy!
Your go-to snack when you're writing music?
A good juice.
A snack food that should be banned?
Grass jelly. Watch out for my upcoming episode of Super Snacks Party on my YouTube channel with Raye and you’ll understand.
