Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist, Jake Hoskins is getting ready to launch a new track.
Hailing from Margaret River (WA), the blues and roots lover has already got two EPs under his belt, while his band Hoo Ha Hipsters are also setting themselves up to hit the road.
Before Jake hands over the new material, titled 'Uncle Shoes', for listeners, he lists five of his favourite slide guitarists.
1: Hound Dog Taylor
I first discovered one of his albums a while back when sifting through my late father's collection of CDs and found myself grooving along to it in the car. There's something about this Mississippi legend's music that just gets you in the mood to get down and boogie.
2: Dave Hole
I went to a blues concert a few years ago at the Astor Theatre in Perth and felt my jaw hit the floor. I’ve never seen anyone play slide like he did. His solos were so explosive and he made it look so easy.
3: Ben Harper
One of my personal favourites. His versatility and songwriting is so inspirational. Songs like 'When It’s Good' and 'Dirty Little Lover' – just phenomenal.
4: George Thorogood
When I was a kid I got given the album 'Bad To The Bone' and absolutely loved it. While listening to his best-known song 'Bad To The Bone’, I remember thinking 'wow, that’s so awesome!'.
5: Mason Rack
I first saw him at Bridgetown Blues Festival in WA about five years ago, and was lucky enough to support him at a festival earlier this year. He had a ripping rhythm section and really knew how to rock the crowd with his dirty tones and high energy.
Jake Hoskins launches his new single 'Uncle Shoes' at Smoked Garage (Brisbane) 21 September. He also plays Hope And Anchor (Brisbane) 22 September.
