Celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with the NAIDOC Week showcase at Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) featuring Isaiah.

This year's theme for NAIDOC Week is 'Because Of Her, We Can' and Isaiah explains what that means to him. “It means that there's been a whole bunch of people before us, even in my own family who have gone before me in their own walks of life,” Isaiah says.

“There are a lot of strong women in my family; there's so much that my family has been through and a lot of Aboriginal women that have stood strong and stood by what they believe in, to live how we live and have that acceptance.”

Since winning 'The X Factor' in 2016, Isaiah has built a reputation as an impressive performer and even represented Australia at Eurovision in 2017 with his song 'Don't Come Easy' where he placed ninth in the Grand Final.

For the NAIDOC Week showcase at RPAC, Isaiah will be accompanied by his band and he says he's excited to be getting back on stage after working on new music for so long. “I love doing NAIDOC Week and performing everywhere throughout the week,” he says.

“It's so much fun and it's always a good crowd with the Indigenous people; it's a real feel-good experience. I'm with the band for this one and they're a really super-talented group of boys. We're really tight and I just feel like everyone can expect really high-quality entertainment.

“I haven't performed in a while actually because I've been working on new music and doing a whole lot of stuff for my new single that's coming out with my record label. I've been a bit on the down-low, so I'm really looking forward to being back up there centre-stage and having fun because I've really missed it.”

Isaiah says he hopes to have his new single out soon and that he has worked with some high-profile pop producers to imbue the track with the sounds of classic soul. “I do have a new song that's ready to be released, but we're just waiting on the date; probably this month and it's sick, it's such a good song,” he says.

“It was produced by the guys who make a lot of Shawn Mendes songs and One Direction songs – pretty elite producers, so the songs are good.

"The genre of the song is definitely pop and radio-friendly, but I feel it has a bit of an old-school, R&B, Motown vibe to it, especially with the instruments that are in the song. It sounds like it's a classic song but it's new, it's got that old-school kind of feel to it.”

At just 18-years-old, Isaiah has already achieved many of the milestones he set out to achieve when he started his career and says the main goal left to kick is to write and release his own, full-length album. “I'm the type of person who goes with the flow and somehow great things always happen,” he says.

“There are a lot of things I want to achieve with my music commercially with record sales, but definitely just to make an album is my next milestone that I want to do because I'd be so proud of myself for making an album.”

Isaiah plays the free NAIDOC Week showcase at Redland Performing Arts Centre (Brisbane) 8 July from noon.
