Currently touring North America with Band Of Horses, indie folk-rock singer-songwriter Iron & Wine returns to Australia in 2026.
His first live dates down under since 2018 – read our review of his Brisbane concert from that tour – the artist also known as film studies lecturer Sam Beam will perform solo, stripped-back concerts in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide (as part of WOMADelaide), Port Fairy Folk Festival (two sets) and Melbourne next February-March.
Across seven studio albums – the most recent being 2024's 'Light Verse' (that includes the Fiona Apple collab 'All In Good Time') – Iron & Wine's catalogue includes such folk masterpieces as 'Flightless Bird, American Mouth', 'Naked As We Came' and 'Call It Dreaming'.
After releasing an eerily beautiful cover of Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time' in 2016, Sam has again teamed with Band Of Horses' Ben Bridwell to release earlier this month 'Making Good Time' EP, a five-track covers project that continues the pair's love of recording covers, following their 2015 covers album 'Sing Into My Mouth'.
It features renditions of U2's 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For', Kendrick Lamar's 'Luther', 'I Want To Know What Love Is' by Foreigner, Roxy Music's 'More Than This' and Boygenius' 'Ketchum, ID'.
"Ten years on from the first record of covers we did together, we're beside ourselves to pick it back up with a few new songs. . . it just felt right to get back together and sing some songs we love a whole lot. Now it belongs to you," Sam and Ben posted.
"Brad Cook suggested ['I Want To Know What Love Is'] and the little kid in me who remembers skating around the roller rink in the '80s imagining he was Lou Gramm sat up and said 'yes, let's do it!' Such an amazing chorus," Iron & Wine says.
