Emerging WA band Cloning recently released their ethereal new single 'All Rise', an introspective track that questions morality and is influenced by Nordic mythology.
The band, who have been turning heads for their blend of rock, pop, shoegaze and trip hop (and have supported Ocean Alley), will launch the single with a home-town show this month.Ahead of that performance, we asked Cloning to introduce themselves.
Who is Cloning. . . We are Felix Parker (lead vocals, guitar), Bevan Green (guitar, backing vocals), Nic Rollo (bass, backing vocals) and Jack Brett (drums).
We sound like. . . Alternative rock meets trip hop, shoegaze and pop. English bands like Radiohead, Slowdive and Portishead, mixed with Australian acts like Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Midnight Oil, and then a couple American groups thrown in from The Doors to The National.
Our first gig was. . . At YMCA HQ in Leederville for an all-ages show.
When did you settle on the group's name, and was it an unanimous decision. . . The name used to be longer, but we all felt Cloning was punchier. So it was pretty unanimous.
In the studio we usually. . . Obsess over our songs for hours and hours on end, but also have a heap of fun doing so.
If we could tour with anyone. . . Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Their live show is incredible (have seen them three times) and their music inspires us.
Social media is. . . Not always that social.
My favourite app at the moment is. . . Tik Tok because it's actually pretty entertaining.
To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time. . . Bevan picked every piece of capsicum off an entire pizza.
Life on the road can be. . . Tasty because the coffee and food is really good over east-coast Australia. Also pretty funny sleeping on top of musical equipment and in run-down backpackers accomodation.
If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains. . . Pizza (especially margherita pizza), chocolate thick shakes from McDonalds and chilled water.
The most scary scenario I've found ourselves in, was. . . Trying to fit all of our musical equipment into an Uber (multiple times) on tour to avoid paying the extra $20 to hire a maxi taxi. Then having all our excess equipment on our laps and knowing that our demise is guaranteed in the event of a crash.
What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band. . . Charli XCX, because her social media is so funny (also makes good music).
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party. . . Whoever is reading this article and then two friends of their choice.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? A pizza margherita. But we might get Felix's dad to do it for us because he makes tasty pizzas.
No matter the expense, send me a case of. . . Boston Squeeze New England IPA.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was. . . Last week.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Doing taxes.
Do you have any phobias. . . Spiders are the worst. They're scary and we don't trust them in this band.
Would you ever partake in a reality show? Probably not, but they are very entertaining to watch. 'Survivor' is always a favourite.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? Pranking Felix by hiding fresh tomatoes under the cheese of his margherita pizza with no fresh tomatoes.
