Introducing Tom Dodd

Tom Dodd
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

From the north coast of NSW, Tom Dodd is a young musician peddling a psychedelic brand of bluesy folk.

Who is Tom Dodd… I’m a 19 year old artist who draws musical influence from coastal lifestyle and soaking in my surroundings.

I sound like… A combination of Angus Stone and John Butler incorporating psychedelic textures and natural soundscapes to develop a unique blend of psychedelic folk and blues.

My first gig was… I think it was a small local fundraising event at Cudgen Leagues Club. It was super chilled and a fun environment for starting out.

When did you settle on your stage name, and was it a unanimous decision… No special stories here, it’s just my name haha.

In the studio I usually… Get super psyched off all the gear; it’s such a creative process and you can do anything you like. I am a little OCD with the way I run sessions though; if the studio is messy it ruins the vibe for some reason haha.

If I could tour with anyone… I’d tour with my mates, nothing better than hanging out with a good crew of people.

Social media is… Good in some aspects, sad in others, I don’t want to dive too deep on this one.

To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time… I’m sure I’ve had embarrassing moments, but none that stick out in my memory.

If you’ll have me on your bill, all I ask is that our rider contains… A bucket of Maltesers, they are so epic.

Maltesers

The most scary scenario I’ve found myself in, was… I was on my way to playing a set at Splendour In The Grass last year, entering the gates hours early but there was a monster traffic jam, it took so long to get in. Then had to park really far away because the security guy at one of the gates wanted to see a particular pass that I didn’t have. So I carried a backpack (full of pedals, leads etc..), two guitars and a cajon from the car park to the stage and just got there on time. I was on edge and heart was pounding like crazy.

What celebrity would you love to be spokesperson of the band… Kramer from ‘Seinfeld’ — his entries into a room/ conversation are impeccable.
