Introducing The Willow Seed

The Willow Seed
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Brisbane folk-reggae/ jazz-funk hybrid The Willow Seed will launch their debut single, ‘Whatever May Come’ later this month.

Singer/ songwriter Catherine Stevens introduces us to the five-piece.

The Willow Seed... Is the fruition of an idea I had many years ago when I began performing solo. I always heard my songs with more going on than just myself and a guitar. Through trial and error I now feel so lucky to be playing with such a great group of people who each bring their own style and inspiration to the songs.

We sound like... A cool band hopefully. Each song aims at different elements or stylistic highlights, the instrumentation covers acoustic and electric guitars, ukulele, steel resonator, banjo, piano, organ, strings, bass and drums.

Our first gig was... As a five-piece, our first gig was at Upstairs and to the Left… an awesome live music night in Woolloongabba.

When did you settle on the group’s name, and was it a unanimous decision... A while ago, it was one suggestion among many that seemed to stick and be inspiring at the same time.

In the studio we usually... Chip away at a song, adding this, taking away that, more of this a bit less of that until the song reveals itself as a releasable product. It’s sometimes hard to know when to let go and send it out into the world.

If we could tour with anyone... So many, but The Waifs or John Butler Trio would be incredible.

Social media is... Hilarious. Sometimes great, sometimes not so.

To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... I turned a sweet ballad into a Hendrix-esque solo mid-song, after stepping on the wrong pedal… some people dug it.

Life on the road can be... Extremely funny.

If you’ll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... Surprise us.

The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in, was... When we were playing at a wedding in Byron Bay and forgot about daylight saving. Lets just say we cut it very fine.

What celebrity would you like to be spokesperson for the band...
Jim Carrey. Firstly because I'm a massive fan and secondly because of the speech he gave to a graduating college class recently about following your dreams... he hit the nail on the head.
