Introducing The Ninjas

The Ninjas
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.
Who are The Ninjas... We are Josh Stewart, Pat Ferris, Mark Cosgrove and Dizzy Mackay. They are also Kenny Powers favourite band.

Kenny PowersWe sound like... If The Libertines, Strokes, and The Vines had a baby, we would be the baby, and The Stones would be our granddaddy.

Our first gig was... In a hall our friends were renting for a random dance recital; don’t ask.

When did you settle on the group’s name, and was it a unanimous decision... We used to be called something else (we wont say what) but we were banned from a venue in one of our first shows. We reapplied to play that venue under the pseudonym of The Ninjas, and when we were on stage the bar manager realised it was us. We’ve kept the name ever since.

In the studio we usually... Fight and argue, and offer Marky and Diz donuts as rewards for not mucking up when we're tracking the beds (by beds I mean bass and drums).

If we could tour with anyone... Anyone fun, so guess that would cancel out INXS after watching the recent TV series. Michael looked like the only fun one.

INXS
Social media is... A handy means of spamming people with event invites, and an ironically sad podium for everybody to celebrate their individuality.

To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time... More awkward than embarrassing, but we played to a room full of punters who must have cruised over from the retirement village, or was that just the standard crowd at the Woombye Pub, not sure. Either way they clearly enjoyed sipping on their Earl Grey tea (kid not) more so than the noise drowning their hearing aids.

If you’ll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... Banana and strawberry smoothy for Stewart. The rest of us are like vultures — we'll drink anything you throw at us. But if we have the choice, some Capt Morgan’s Spiced Gold would be ideal.

Capt Morgan
What celebrity would you love to be spokesperson of the band... Danny McBride as Kenny Powers is definitely our spokesperson. In fact, our people are currently in communication with his people to get this happening.
