Sydney's bedroom pop artist-producer Thomas Porter's newest single is the delightfully charming 'BLUEBLUEBLUE' featuring Dee Holt.
A song that leans into the awkward "do you wanna come over" invite when young romance is in the air, but yet to blossom, the back-and-forth vocals between Porter and Holt blend together like honey and tea."This song is about a moment, and a feeling," begins Thomas.
"I think the reason I chose the title 'BLUEBLUEBLUE'; because I couldn't imagine anything else capturing that feeling of joy and happiness, and I'm so excited for everyone to hear the song for the first time and understand exactly what I mean.
"On top of all of that, Dee does a flawless job of giving a voice to that feeling of calm contentment, and I couldn't imagine sharing the stage of this song with anyone else.
"I can't wait for the world to hear this tune and feel the same feelings I had while slowly putting it together."
Adds Dee: "I absolutely love the song. It's so catchy and easy to listen to. I love the lyrics and the melody, although, what first caught my attention about the track was really Porter's voice.
"I love how our voices end up mixing and sounding together. I think it adds a lot of flavour to the song and makes us stand out."
With 2022 just around the corner, Porter has plans to release more singles and an EP next year with 'BLUEBLUEBLUE' just the first chapter of 'more dreamy things to come for the young singer-songwriter'.
"For me this feels like pop music for people that don't necessarily want to admit they love pop music in a lot of ways," Porter says.
"I'm hoping that people see the honesty of it. That they see real rawness and authenticity. Authenticity is so hard to come by now. I'm a lot of things and I'm not a lot of things, but I realise that all I have is this."
Who is... Thomas Porter is a project I started to make music that made me happy. I used to make electronic music, and while it was fun, it definitely did not make me happy.
As you can probably tell from the stuff I've released so far, making music I personally connect with and that I like is my main goal. I just hope other people connect with it too.
I sound like... Somewhere between a romcom soundtrack and a child making music in their bedroom.
My first gig was... The first gig I went to was P!NK with my mum when I was ten. We won a competition and got to meet her for 30 seconds. She was lovely. I think.
When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... Thomas Porter funnily enough isn't my real name. I'll never tell though.
In the studio I usually... Sit on my laptop and try to work as quickly as possible. The quicker we have a song, the better. Something about watching songs come together quickly is just the best.
If I could tour with anyone... Probably Foster The People. Even though they have more or less disbanded, that band is probably my biggest influence musically. Mark Foster is a genius.
Social media is... Exhausting at the best of times, awful at the worst.
My favourite app at the moment is... Untappd. I love a good craft beer.
To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... A stranger had to call me an Uber home in Kings Cross after one too many beers at The World Bar. I woke up in my garden the next morning having not made it to my door. Not my finest hour.
Life on the road can be... Can't say I have tonnes of experience touring, but in my limited experience, very tiring. Hangovers seem to compound.
If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that the rider contains... Red Rock Deli brand salt and vinegar chips.
The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... A flight I was on when I was younger had to emergency land at a cargo airport in Malaysia because an electrical storm had come out of nowhere. I've never seen flight attendants look concerned, other than during that landing.
What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be your spokesperson... Dolly Parton definitely.
If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Copenhagen without a doubt. I love Denmark.
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... My girlfriend, and her two best friends she is in a fight with at the moment. Self-explanatory I think.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Vegan dan-dan noodles. Peanut butter, garlic, soy, sesame and szechuan pepper all combined into one delicious mess.
When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? I love dogs. I have three. I will throw hands with anyone that doesn't like them.
No matter the expense, send me a case of... One Drop Brewery sour beers. Please sponsor me One Drop, I can't afford these $50 four-packs anymore.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Probably over a year ago, but I do love the odd run so it's not too bad.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? I hate vacuuming. With a fiery passion.
Do you have any phobias... I get very dizzy when in high places. I'm not sure if it's a phobia, but it definitely feels very weird and unpleasant.
Would you ever partake in a reality show? Absolutely. Sign me up for 'Squid Game' for all I care; if there is money on the line I will find a way to win.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? My partner. All I would have to do is hide behind a corner at any moment and jump out. She scares easily. It's one of my favourite hobbies.
Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma? Not sure if it is open until midnight, but Green Gourmet leaves me wanting to collapse in the best way every time I have one of their meals.
Which fictional character best describes your personality? Miles Teller from 'Whiplash'. Obsessive about music and a bit of a dick sometimes.
Last show you binge-watched? 'Squid Game'. Not the dubbed version though. We only watch with subtitles in this household.
