An independent artist with a classical training background and a love for modern indie sounds, Jessa Verone is building her profile that's enhanced by her newest single, 'My Mind'.
A sound reminiscent of BENEE and Hatchie, Jesse blends indie folk with indietronica and electropop tones. "I'm incredibly excited to share this next song," Verone says."Whilst the lyrics touch on disappointment and confusion in relationships, the musicality contrasts this with a hopeful, melodic tone. My hope for 'My Mind' is that it reaches those who need it, as I wrote this song when I needed it most."
The follow-up single to her debut release 'Blue Moon' that dropped in August, Jessa recently made her live debut, selling out her first show with more performances planned in the new year.
"You can expect to see a lot more from me in 2025, I'm ready to share the sound that I've been working on for so long. More singles, an EP – I can't wait!"
I sound like... My music has been influenced by so many artists over time – currently I'm influenced by Vera Blue, Florence (Florence + The Machine), Kenya Grace and Gracie Abrams. Each artist has influenced my music in different ways and has allowed me to make my sound what it is today.
My first gig... As 'Jessa Verone' was at The Vanguard in Newtown, Sydney. Two of my uni friends and I put on a three-act show together – this was the first time I performed my original music and knew from then on that was all I ever wanted to do. Also performing with your best friends is something you can't beat!
When did you settle on the artist name? I chose Jessa Verone during my time at uni, when preparing for my first major performance. I always wanted my artist name to be Jessa (instead of Jessica) and decided on 'Verone' very randomly with my Mum and it just worked!
In the studio I usually... Jam with my producer/ close friend; I bring an idea and he plays around with the production while I create different lyric ideas.
If I could tour with anyone... It would have to be Gracie Abrams – she's an incredible songwriter and performer.
Social media is... Pretty hard these days, everything's always changing, but it's a great tool as a musician and useful as a creative portfolio to showcase who you are.
My favourite app at the moment is... Instagram. . . I really enjoy being able to get creative with posts and promo, creating a brand as a musician. Also connecting with other artists and seeing what everyone is up to is so inspiring.
If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? I would live somewhere in Italy: The culture, the lifestyle, the people and the music! There's so much to see. Being influenced and surrounded by opera my whole life also makes me feel really connected there.
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Celine Dion because she's so classy and an incredible performer; also her shoe collection is something I deeply admire! Olivia Dean because she seems so lovely and is one of my biggest inspirations currently. My brother because he's my best mate and always a laugh to be around.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us? Breakfast: Protein pancakes. Lunch: Arancini and salad. Dinner: Homemade pizza. Dessert: Pavlova.
When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? Absolute lover! I've always had a dog in my house.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Today! The gym is my second love. It's one of my favourite things to do in my spare time.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? I hate cleaning the dishes. . . if you know, you know.
Do you have any phobia... I can't stand moths. . . I can't explain why, but to me, they're worse than spiders.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? My group chat is my go-to when I want to entertain myself. I love saying the most outlandish things and then sending a funny follow up image/ comment. It's never failed me.
Which fictional character best describes your personality... My friends say I'm a mix between Tinkerbell, Donna ('Mamma Mia') and Rachael ('Friends') – the same sense of adventure and love for friends/ community.
Last show you binge-watched... 'Gilmore Girls' is a regular binge series for me. I just love it.
